pillows.

i spent a bit of time last week whipping up a few pillows.  i had a friend that was headed to a craft fair and said if i had something to sell she would take it along with her stuff.
so, what do people want to buy at craft fairs?
it was a christmas craft fair so i though, hey, some christmas pillows would probably sell...
 wrong!
i didn't sell a single one.
but that is just fine by me.
i like them.
spencer loves them.
and the kiddos have been having fun with them.
i also danced with some invisible zippers.
the zippers won.
but i am getting better. and after next week i should be queen of the invisible zip!
if i come up with a master techinque i promise to share it.

  1. Can't wait for some concealed zipper tips - I haven't been brave enough to try those yet!

All I can say is those people at the fair were bonkers and probably bought knitted dollies and teasle hedgehogs (or are those a British thing?) - fools! Your cushions are lovely xxx

  2. Oh man I hate when that happens.....I have had that experience but I refuse to give my stuff away unless it is as a gift to someone I love.

Nice job on the design and well zippers are just tough until you have done a couple dozen of them.

    Happy Sewing and Merry Christmas

  7. I have read a lot of people having problems selling things this yeat - probably the economic climate? But I think they're great, and what's the problem with the zips? They look great to me.

  9. Well, I majored in clothing and textiles in college and I stay away from those invisible zips myself!! Cute pillows, and now you make me want to go to joanne's for that wonderful red and white fabric!! Just came over here from Ellison Lane quilts blog: your two kiddo's are soooo cute!! I love Idaho too: born in Caldwell and spent every summer vacation growing up in the Nampa area at my grandparents farms. (And went to Ricks college.) I always said if I could afford a summer home it would be in Rexburg: heavenly summers!! Have a great Christmas and enjoy your little ones: they grow up too fast!!

  11. I do quite a bit of sewing for arts and crafts fairs (did over ten this year) and it's a tough market. You never know what is going to sell this year from last year to next year. But just be patient and keep on perfecting your skill and next year you'll make more than you did this year (lol) - I did - from almost nothing to almost something. Be sure to put out your business cards - never know what will happen then.

  13. Ah, sorry about the lack of sales, they've been disheartening me at bear fairs of late too :o(

Still, nice new decorations for you!

  15. I don't know who these crazy people are. No pillow purchases? Disgraceful. Your pillows are lovely, and I know you will master the invisible zipper!

    Hi Nicke,
I just googled Invisible zipper tutorials and the first one
    http://sewiknit.blogspot.com/2006/03/invisible-zipper-tutorial.html
Has some very good pics and some links at the bottom, I didn't check them out yet.
I have worked where we had to use invisible zips and they are not hard, one of the basics is to sew the seam line in as close as you can to the teeth, it is a special zipper, you can't get the same results with an ordinary zip. not sure if you are trying to use a normal one or not from the pics.
In the last few days, and I can't remember where I saw a Tute without a special foot, just your normal zipper foot.
But if all else fails, try using a matching thread, conceals a multitude of sins. :o)
Hope this helps, but also try You tube.
